So the DA came around to the house today. I'm not sure if my folks were madder because I had cut classes, or because the DA told them, "I don't want to see that kid around the courthouse again. Ever. Even on the sidewalk. On the other side of the street. And you'd better keep him away from the Internet."
I told them I had to log on one last time to close the account, and they don't know I'm making this post. They're taking away my Powerbook. Mom says that maybe I'll get it back on April 1, if I make straight A's ("An A- doesn't count") on my next report card, but Dad says he'll kick my butt if I don't go out for spring football practice, and that I won't get my computer back until I make the first team. ("And then you won't have time for it.")
Please don't forget that David isn't out of trouble yet. Please do whatever you personally do to keep a kid from being killed: Write your Congressman, pray, make a contribution to ACLU, blog, wring your hands, whatever.
Sincerely,
texasdirt
Has anyone heard of any developments in this case? I've searched and can't find any mentions on Google News.
ReplyDeletePlease post any information here. I'm sure I'm not the only one concerned with David's fate.
Thanx
My source at the ACLU says that they're presently trying to keep a low profile on this case to avoid blowback on other cases before they get the writ of habeas corpus.
ReplyDeleteThey would prefer that no publicity be given to the case (or to this blog) until April 1.
Sounds like you need to get yourself a lawyer. But not DiagonAl.
ReplyDeleteAs long as ACLU is in town, what do they have to say about the DA banning you from the public courthouse and the public street in front of it?
@ outraged:
ReplyDeleteIt appears (if we can believe texasdirt) that the parents did the grounding, based on what the DA told them. You can scarcely ban his free speech to preserve the kid's.
I wrote my Congressman, but got back a form letter saying that Diagon is not in his district, so he can't help.
ReplyDeleteAnyone know other ways to effectively solicit help?
@ Hope
ReplyDeleteI got the same kind of form letter from my congresscritter. Do you suppose we didn't donate enough in the last campaign? :-(
PS Anybody know the congressional district for Diagon?
@texan1st:
ReplyDeleteIt ain't free speech when the DA slings around orders from his official high horse.

Anyone who spends any time thinking about this case must be struck by how little hue and cry there has been on such an important matter.
ReplyDeleteI don't believe for a minute the claim by "Anonymous" that the ACLU wants to keep this quiet. It's just not their style.
My own experience leads me to another theory.
I posted one (1) time about this to my blog, Professional Paranoiac, and it swiftly and silently vanished away. Not only is my blog (http://professionalparanoiac.blogspot.com/) not there anymore, there is no trace of it in places like the Google cache. The user account and email account that I used to establish it are also gone without a trace.
I called up my ISP to complain, and was told that since I had never had an account with them, Customer Servic could not tell me anything. I got the same story from a supervisor. When I asked "Can't tell me or won't tell me?" the answer was "Can't. Click." I have also gotten no satisfaction by email or snailmail.
Fortunately, I keep a supply of spare identities for just such emergencies, so I started a new blog, under a new name, with a different ISP and blog provider. Same thing. Minutes after my first dvdjo post, everything was just gone.
I've done some quiet checking with other bloggers I (almost) trust, and found two others who have had the same experience.
Which begs the question: Why is this blog still here? It could be that
a) It's not big enough to bother Them, or
b) It's being watched like a honeypot to keep tabs on who has learned about this issue.
I favor b). So beware when you visit this blog. Normally, I use Triple Onion Routing when I surf, but to access West of Pecos, I use Triple-Triple Onion Routing, and I recommend that you do the same. If you've visited without anonymization, you are probably already compromised.
I think we might be able to overwhelm Them if we pick a date and all of us use every means at our disposal to get this story out: blogs, email, snail mail, telephone, personal contact. I propose April 1 as D-Day. Meanwhile, stay out of sight (if you can).
I smell Boojums!
I don't trust "coincidences." Both "Anonymous" and "Be Afraid" are trying to convince us to hold off any publicity about David Josephssen's plight until April 1.
ReplyDeleteMy question is: Who's interest is served by waiting until April 1? For dvdjo's sake, I say we should start trying to raise Hell now!
PS Did anyone actually see "Professional Paranoid" before it supposedly disappeared? That wouldn't prove anything, but it might give a little credibility to "Be Afraid"'s story.
I am planning to test his theory by posting about dvdjo on SkepticsSkeptic right now. If http://skepticsskepti.blogspot.com stays up, that also won't prove anything, but it will be evidence that "They" are not as powerful as claimed. And it might help dvdjo (I get about a hundred visitors a day).
@ Afraid
ReplyDeleteI posted about dvdjo yesterday, and my blog is still there at http://justasnark.blogspot.com/ . My email account, justasnark@hotmail.com, still works. I've heard no complaint from my ISP.
I think you probably aren't very skilled on the Web and deleted your own accounts accidentally.
@afraid, justasnark
ReplyDeletejustasnark's blog is gone, too.
The Black Helicopters are coming to get you both. They Know How to Find You
@ Afraid!
ReplyDeleteLet me add my story to yours.
I'm an aspiring TV writer/director/producer, whose starting to build a reputation. You won't have seen my name (unless you're an obsessive reader of the credits that roll at the end of TV movies), but I've ghosted TV movies for some fairly respected names, and there are people at almost all the networks who will take my calls. But I digress.
As soon as I heard about the David Josephssen case, I thought that it would be perfect for a "based on real, true facts" TV movie. I did a little research, put together a proposal, and started calling my network contacts.
It didn't surprise me that the major networks weren't interested--they hardly ever are. It was the way the conversations went that was a shock: I'd just be getting into the gist of the story when my contact would hang up--sometimes in mid-sentence. When I'd call back, they "weren't available," and didn't return my calls.
Well, after this happened three times, I thought maybe I'd have better luck in person, but I didn't. As soon as I mentioned the name David Josephssen, the person I was talking to would say very quickly, "We're not interested. Now would you please leave?" and have me hustled out of the building, like I'd said I was deathly ill with Ebola or asian flue or something.
Finally, at one of the smaller networks, my contact took pity on me. Instead of throwing me out, she said "Say no more here. Can we go for a walk?"
When we were on the sidewalk away from the building, and she'd checked carefully that there was no one within earshot, she said "I'd like to ask you some questions." Well, compared to what I'd been getting, that sounded promising.
"You saw this story on the news?"
"Well, actually, no, I didn't see it on any of the news shows."
"You read it in the newspapers?"
"No."
"You saw it in a magazine?"
"No."
"In the National Enquirer?"
"No."
"Doesn't this lack of coverage suggest something to you?"
"Why yes. That's why I thought it was such a good idea for a TV movie. An independent production could be out of the blocks before any of the majors even took notice."
"Well, think again. There's a reason why there's been no publicity on this case. The word is out that to touch this story is death. Certainly professionally, possibly even personally."
Well, of course, I had a thousand questions, but before I could get even one of them out, she said three words, turned on her heel, and without a backwards glance, walked as swiftly back to the building as she could in high heels.
I'm not sure I heard her last three words correctly, much less their spelling, but I think that they were "Rhea Keezer Soza."
I don't have any way to contact Them, but if They are reading this blog, I want Them to know that I HAVE NO INTENTION OF DOING ANYTHING MORE ON THIS PROJECT. This post is my last activity in any way related to David Josephssen/dvdjo. Over and out.
I hope everyone will support the ACLU in their continuing struggle to prevent this injustice from being carried forward. Further, I advocate a return to the ways of our forefathers, where business is attended to face to face.
ReplyDeleteRemember, everyone, tomorrow, April 1, is D-Day for David Josephssen. This is the time for a concerted effort to get his story out to the world.
ReplyDeleteThey have pretty much kept the lid on so far, but their efforts are starting to slip a little. Their main problem is that They must conceal their presence and activities. But information wants to be free!
So spread the word, via blog, email, telephone, call-in radio, talking to your neighbors, etc. They know we are coming, but with one concerted effort, we can overwhelm then. Or if not, at least give them a damn goo
